Seventy nine current players, 11 former Test cricketers and 11 support staff and officials have severed their relations with the ICL and applied to the BCCI to rejoin the mainstream of Indian cricket, the Board said on Tuesday.
They are seeking a return under the amnesty scheme offered by the country’s cricketing board.
With this move, it is increasingly clear that the future of the ICL itself is now in serious doubt.
The list of players who want to return to domestic cricket and try and turn out in national colours includes the likes of Rohan Gavaskar, Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, JP Yadav, Dinesh Mongia, Ambati Rayadu, Stuart Binny and Reetinder Singh Sodhi.
The list of former cricketers includes Sandeep Patil, EAS Prasanna, Madan Lal, Rajesh Kamath, Karsan Ghavri, Pranob Roy, Ashok Malhotra, Rajesh Chauhan, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Bharat Reddy, Atul Wassan and Ajit Wadekar.
The BCCI has written to the respective state associations stating that these players are eligible to play in domestic tournaments for this year, a release said. Guidelines with respect to participation in the Indian Premier League will be intimated in due course, the BCCI noted.
