India’s preparations ahead of their ICC Champions Trophy opener against Pakistan on Saturday have been hit by the news that middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh has suffered a finger injury which rules him out of participating in the tournament.
Yuvraj fractured the little finger on his right hand during a training session in Johannesburg and he will be replaced by Virat Kohli. India also play Australia and the West Indies in Group A of the tournament, which began yesterday (22nd September) with Sri Lanka taking a 55-run Duckworth/Lewis win over South Africa in Group B.
Yuvraj hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 and took two hat-tricks in the second edition of the Indian Premier League, held in South Africa earlier this year.
India have been struck hard by injuries in the build-up to the tournament with Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan not making the squad due to shoulder injuries while Gautam Gambhir missed the tri-series in Sri Lanka with a groin strain.
