A star-studded New South Wales Blues team brought the Gestetner Diamond Eagles down to earth with an emphatic 53-run win as the Champions League Twenty20 moved on to Delhi.
Captain Simon Katich top scored with 53 before the Blues defended their score of 144 for six by restricting the Eagles to a meagre 91 for nine. Katich hit six fours and two sixes in 42 balls, being well supported by Moises Henriques (27) and David Warner (23) and despite Shadley van Schalkwyk taking the wickets of Katich and Henriques, the Blues had a winning score.
Only two Eagles players could reach double figures as Henriques (2-13) and Stuart Clark (3-12) ripped through the South African side. Clark dismissed wicket-keeper Morne van Wyk, captain Boeta Dippenaar and opener Dillon du Preez while Henriques struck to remove Ryan McLaren, who made 40, and van Schalkwyk as the Eagles crashed to a desperate position of 36 for six in the tenth over.
