T Suman scored his second half-century in two games as the Deccan Chargers kept their Indian Premier League semi-final hopes alive with a six-wicket win over the Chennai Super Kings in Nagpur.
Suman hit 55 as the Chargers picked up a second win on the bounce in the final over having restricted the Super Kings to 138 for eight, which never looked like a winning score. Excellent bowling from Ryan Harris (3-18), Harmeet Singh (1-21), Pragyan Ojha (1-20), RP Singh (1-18) and Andrew Symonds (1-23) and sound fielding kept the Chargers on top despite Suresh Raina’s combative 52 in 42 balls for the Chennai team. Matthew Hayden (19) and Murali Vijay (23) were the only other players to reach double figures.
In reply, the Chargers lost wickets as Chennai hit back, Mohnish Mishra (7), Adam Gilchrist (21) and Rohit Sharma (8) the first men to fall before Suman hit 55 in 44 balls with four fours and two sixes to restabilise their innings. He added a vital 43 with Symonds for the fourth wicket and the Australian was unbeaten on 26 alongside Dwayne Smith, who smashed a six to end unbeaten on 13 in eight balls.
