Mohammad Hafeez scored a half-century and took a wicket as reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions Pakistan began their preparations for the 2010 tournament with a 68-run win over a Windward Islands XI in Saint Lucia.
Hafeez top scored with 57 as Pakistan made 160 for seven and in reply, the Windward Islands team was restricted to 92 for four. Salman Butt (18 in 10 balls), Hafeez, who faced 40 deliveries and Shahid Afridi (20 in 16) gave Pakistan a good start before Fawad Alam (24) and Misbah-ul-Haq (17 in eight balls) helped them post 160 as pacer Mervin Matthew took two for 22 from his four overs. Hafeez hit three fours and a six while Misbah finished off the innings with a flourish with a couple of maximums in his innings.
The Windwards then made a steady start but were unable to accelerate as the Pakistan bowlers put the brakes on, Mohammad Aamer, Afridi, Hafeez, and Saeed Ajmal all taking a wicket. Top scorer for the Windwards was Keddy Lesporis, who made 24 in 33 balls before falling to Hafeez.
Pakistan conclude their warm-up programme when they play Zimbabwe on Friday (29th April) and they begin their title defense when they take on Bangladesh on Saturday (1st May).
