Tendulkar to act now

After Salil Ankola, Vinod Kambli and Ajay Jadeja, now Sachin Tendulkar will make his debut on the 70mm screen.

However, unlike other cricketers who have acted in commercial cinema, Tendulkar will feature in film based on Mumbai’s famous Siddhivinayak temple which will be directed by Yashwanth Ingavale who has assisted Madhur Bhandarkar previously.

The film focusses on the devotees who visit the Siddhivinayak temple and their experiences. Tendulkar will not charge a single penny for the film.

Mithun into football now

Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty on Thursday announced setting up of Royal Bengal Sports Private ltd which would tie-up with a local soccer club and infuse the much needed professional touch in its affairs. This was after the filmstar had earlier bought a franchise in the Indian Cricket league through his Royal Bengal Tigers (RBT).

Announcing a tie-up between Royal Bengal Tigers and Howrah Union, a soccer club in city maidan, Mithun said RBT’s football division would now be known as Royal Bengal Tiger Howrah Union. Mithun, who was addressing reporters at a city hotel, said the idea of tie-up was for promotion of football in the state.

Preity takes on Shah rukh?

That is what today’s other match between King’s XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Rider has got billed as by a huge section of media, a Preity Zinta vs SRK encounter. And amidst this war of the Bollywood, the actual battle would fought between the players on the field at the Mohali Cricket ground.

Kolkata would be desperately hoping for a turn around of fortunes, after having lost three in a row, where as the Kings team seems to be on a roll after beating Mumbai Indians. Ganguly would need himself to fire, but also hope that he gets support from the top order, who has not been doing much scoring. The swing of Pathan and Sreesanth in hot, dewy conditions would be a difficult proposition for the batsmen.

A King’s win can take them to the top of the table, at least for the time being!

Cheergirls to be banned? So?

Politicians have this habit of politicising stuff. Well, frankly, that is their job.

So, if the politicians, read, the moral police, want to ban the cheer girls because they have been ‘too obscene’, so be it. Personally, I do not believe that they are any more or less obscene than the Bollywood item girls that one is so used to watching, but the fact of the matter is that this entity called ‘cheergirls’ in no way help in increasing the popularity of the game.

So, either ways, I do not see any reason why should there be so much hue and cry about their presence or lack of it.

Let the games go on for heaven sake.

Shame shame Preity!

Very surprising but true. Preity Zinta had some guests come over to Mohali, and to accomodate them in a five star hotel, she actually got some of ‘her’ Kings XI Punjab players to shift out of the hotel they were in to another dingy one – where incidentally, some of the Rani teams had earlier refused to stay as well.

This is a sad commentary of the state of affairs, where one would have thought that the so called ‘corporatization’ of cricket may help the sport, but Preity Zinta seems to have just shown that respect for the one of the most impotant stake holder is not yet forthcoming.

Whatever little support I had for the Kings XI Punjab is gone from my side.

Shah Rukh – what happened to Chak De India

Has anyone realised that in Chak De, Shah Rukh wanted his team to be Indian before anything else – ring a bell ? And here he is promoting and supporting Kolkata Knight Riders i.e. the Kolkata team. What happened to the Indian spirit ? He is too busy dancing to the other team’s wickets falling.

No doubt, he may be a good businessman but the fact that he is running around praising his team and saying that his team is the best is a bit uncalled for. Our suggestion to you is – keep it down mate.

IPL Day 2 Results

In the first match of the second day at IPL, Chennai Super Kings beat Kings XI Punjab, after piling on a mammoth 239 in their stipulated 20 overs. Michael Hussey was the obvious star of the show with a clinical century to his name off only 50 deliveries, where as Muralitharan proved to be Punjab’s nemesis, with a miserly spell of 1/33 in his 4 overs.

In the second one, the Rajasthan Royals were never in the match, after they got bundled out for less than 130 in the 20 overs. Shane Warne look a little off the mark a a captain, tactically, and did not introduce himself into the attack till very late. By the time, he bowled, the Delhi Dare Devils had already run away with the match,finally won with almost five overs to spare.

Earlier, Akshay Kumar mesmerized the Delhi crowd with his ‘Dare Devil” stunts at the Ferozshah Kotla, which was also hosting it’s first match under lights.

The day when Shah rukh Khan danced in the isles!

After all the tension and frustration that King Khan, Shah rukh had spoken about in the lead up to the IPL tournament, the audiences across the world were treated to some fine batsmanship, and even finer – and definitely more exciting – celebrations, by none other than the man himself.

The entire coterie of this Bollywood Badshah included his wife Gauri, co-actors Juhi Chawla and Arjun Rampal, and the some of his near and close members, and the way Kolkata KnightRiders batted and bowled, would have definitely warmed the cockles of their heart.

Once while celebrating a six, Shah rukh even jumped over the fence onto the roof, before realising that it was not a movie they were shooting for, but a cricket match.

Ravi Shastri summed it brilliantly in the end, “The ball went over the fence, and so did he.”

“I don’t crave publicity”, : Shahrukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan found himself in the centre of a controversy after a senior Cricket Board official alluded that cricket matches were being used by stars to promote films, but the superstar hit back saying he did not have to depend on othersâ€™ platforms to push his films.Khan said he was sad and disappointed over the remarks by Ratnakar Shetty that stars using the platform of cricket for promoting films is “slightly debatable” in the wake of his latest film Om Shanti Om coming up for discussion during a chat with TV commentator Rameez Raja at the recent Jaipur ODI cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Shetty, however, said film stars were welcome to watch cricket matches. BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla said the Cricket Board had no objection to Khan or any other film personality coming to watch international cricket matches involving the national side.

A visibly hurt Khan said in Mumbai that “God has given me enough and I don’t crave publicity”.

“I went to watch the match for the love of the sport. It is not in my nature to promote my films in others’ platforms,” he said.

“I think it is strange that just because I am popular, I can’t take my children to watch a spectator sport without creating some kind of ill will or ill thought in the mind of people. I am very disappointed,” Khan said.
